Spokesperson Zhao Lijian made the remarks at a press briefing in response to the NBC's interviews with directors of the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) and Wuhan Branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In the interview, Wang refuted a series of recent U.S. moves hurting bilateral ties, including U.S. closing the Chinese Consulate-General in Houston, launching global campaign against Chinese companies, making fierce attacks on the Communist Party of China and interfering into China's internal affairs.
"If China-U.S. cooperation were unfair and not reciprocal, how could it have continued for several decades? How could China-U.S. ties have come such a long way?" Wang asked.
