China is ready to make cool-headed and sensible response to the impulsive moves and anxiety of the U.S. side, said Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi in a recent interview with Xinhua.
The U.S. administration and some U.S. politicians acted out in such an anxious and reckless manner over Hong Kong-related issues to cover up their own botched response to COVID-19, economy and other domestic problems, the spokesperson noted.
"The law on safeguarding national security in Hong Kong targets a small number of criminals who gravely jeopardize national security and protects the law-abiding Hong Kong residents, who represent the vast majority," Zhao said.
On May 4, 2018, the United States moved its Israeli embassy to Jerusalem after Washington broke with decades of U.S. policy by recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital in 2017, triggering intense international criticism, including from the UN.
"Hopefully, our American friends could have a really better understanding of the realities in our region, could really understand our concern, our perception, and what we need, what the people in the region really need, and could refrain from taking any action to take advantage of any disputes in the region or even escalate the situation," he said.
"We would really hope that the United States could open up its research base at Fort Detrick to the media, release more information about its over 200 bio-labs overseas, and invite WHO experts in to conduct origin-tracing so it has a chance to tell the truth and offer an explanation to the American people and the international community," he added.
The NDMA chairman said China not only helped Pakistan battle the pandemic, but also assisted the country in fighting the locust swarms by providing pesticide and related equipment.
"The fact is as plain as day that there is no evidence supporting the claim that the novel coronavirus came from a lab," Zhao said.
